What You Can Expect From Bulimia Nervosa Treatment in Seattle

At Sunrise Nutrition, we understand the unique challenges of people that are going through Bulimia Nervosa. No matter your situation or stage of life, our experienced team of clinicians is dedicated to providing you with the knowledge, resources, and support you need to rediscover a compassionate, stable relationship with eating.

Our first priority during Bulimia treatment is helping the client establish medical stability in regard to one’s restriction, binging, and purging behaviors. This is typically done through harm reduction practices and working together with the client’s primary care doctor. Once we find medical stability, we will begin to unpack your thoughts, triggers, and emotions that result in restricting your food intake. From there, we work to form consistent eating patterns that nourish both the body and mind and reduce your symptoms of Bulimia. Above all, our clinician's main focus is to destigmatize this disorder, reassuring all our patients that Bulimia does not control or define them. You are experiencing this disorder because of psychological, lifestyle, and socio-economic challenges that are out of your control.

Whether you are living with Bulimia or supporting someone struggling with Bulimia, know that there are treatment options and support groups available at Sunrise Nutrition. Our Seattle clinicians have extensive experience with Bulimia treatment and know how to provide holistic, patient-centered care.

Bulimia Treatment Faqs

  • Those with Anorexia attempt to severely limit or reduce the amount of food or calories consumed. People with Bulimia, however, often eat an excessive amount of food in a short time and then engage in purgatory behaviors to eliminate the calorie intake.

  • The purging type of Bulimia involves self-induced vomiting or the misuse of laxatives, diuretics, or enemas. While the non-purging type is less common, it involves fasting, excessive exercise, or other potentially harmful behaviors. However, you also do not necessarily have to engage in purging or compensatory behaviors to be struggling with Bulimia Nervosa. Eating disorders manifest in each individual differently; not one case is ever alike.

  • Bulimia can prevent someone from receiving the proper nutrients they need, putting them at risk of serious health issues. Some of the most common complications that result from this condition include tooth decay and cavities, throat and stomach ulcers, stomach and intestine damage, abnormal heart rhythm, known as arrhythmia and other cardiac complications.

  • Yes, we provide in-person and online HIPAA-complaint sessions for Bulimia treatment in Washington State. Please note that online sessions require an electronic device with internet access.
